MR3153 An amused smile ::
Nine thousand persons had gathered in the high valley of Shechen to receive a blessing from Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche. I was using a 400mm lens, and was far from this man in the crowd, who wondered if it was indeed him I was photographing and who I was. The first portrait expresses an uncertainty, a certain distance, a stalk of distrust, a questioning. After the first release, I left the viewfinder and looked at him directly. Suddenly, the man realizes that it is indeed him I am photographing, and furthermore he recognizes me. He offers me from the distance, this beautiful smile, friendly and amused.
